High-quality raw materials are essential for high-end wig production. Genuine Remy Hair is considered the finest quality of human hair. It is human hair that has a completely intact cuticle and all cells aligned in one direction (from root to tip). This particular feature of the cuticle is responsible for the shininess of the hair and allows individual hairs to slide one over the other without getting tangled and knotted.
In reality, true Remy hair with intact cuticle is a minority on the market due to the strong demand and high sourcing costs. The majority of human hair sold today is non-Remy hair. Because of the method of collection, the cuticle for each hair strand tends to be in all different directions.
In order to compensate for this, the hair will go through a process referred to as an “acid bath”, to completely remove the cuticles. Healthy human hair consists of 5-10 layers of cuticles, but hair that has been processed for a wig only has 2-3 layers, and some low-quality wigs have no cuticles at all.
When the cuticle is damaged or consumed, the hair can appear opaque, exhausted, dehydrated and lacks elasticity. Chemical treatments such as bleaching and dyeing; excessive use of heat; and use of strong products can all cause the cuticle scales to lift off, damaging the cuticle.
Different types of hair require different kinds of care. Use only hair care products designed for human hair wigs. Do not use standard hair care products from the drugstore. The chemicals they contain can decrease the lifespan of your wig. Invest in quality products to maintain your wig.
